A dinosaur after the rain
The young dinosaur stands with its mouth open and its body slightly twisted as if it has just given itself a vigorous shake. Three large water droplets fly around its head and back. A shallow puddle lies in front of its feet, while a low fern grows to the right. Small tufts of grass and a few stones break up the otherwise open ground. The scene stays simple, so the dinosaur, droplets, puddle, and fern are easy to recognize as separate parts of the picture.
Tyrannosaurus facts
Tyrannosaurus rex lived in western North America near the end of the Cretaceous Period, about 68–66 million years ago. It was a large theropod with strong hind legs, a massive skull, powerful jaws, and very short forelimbs with two fingers. Its teeth were thick and robust rather than thin and blade-like. Fossils can reveal anatomy and evidence of growth, but scientists don't know the exact colors of Tyrannosaurus skin. A young Tyrannosaurus would also have different body proportions from a fully grown adult.
Color ideas for the scene
- Try earthy brown, tan, gray, or muted green for the dinosaur.
- Use pale blue or cool gray for the three water droplets and puddle.
- Make the fern fresh green, olive, or yellow-green.
- Add dark gray, beige, or brown to the small stones.
- Keep the grass tufts in a few related greens for a natural look.
