What is shown in the scene
The bear cub stands behind a low tree stump and lifts one large maple-shaped leaf. Two other autumn leaves lie on the stump, and a woven basket filled with more leaves rests beside it. A tree, low bushes, mushrooms, grass, clouds, and several fallen leaves surround the scene. The arrangement suggests a playful sorting activity based on leaf shapes, while the basket and stump keep the autumn objects close to the central character.
Autumn leaf facts
Leaves from different tree species can have noticeably different outlines, edges, and vein patterns, which makes shape a useful clue when identifying trees. Maple leaves are well known for their pointed lobes, while other species may have rounded lobes, smooth edges, or narrow forms. In autumn, shorter days and cooler conditions cause many deciduous trees to stop producing as much chlorophyll, the green pigment used in photosynthesis. As chlorophyll breaks down, yellow and orange pigments that were already present can become easier to see. Red and purple tones may also develop in some leaves. Fallen leaves gradually decompose and return nutrients and organic matter to the soil.
Color ideas
- Make the maple leaf red, orange, golden yellow, or a mix of autumn shades.
- Give the other leaves different colors so their shapes are easy to compare.
- Use warm brown, tan, or soft gray-brown for the bear cub.
- Color the woven basket honey brown, chestnut brown, or light tan.
- Add green, yellow-green, and autumn brown to the tree, bushes, grass, and mushrooms.
