Facts about lily of the valley
Lily of the valley is a low-growing woodland perennial with fragrant, bell-shaped flowers that are usually white. The plant spreads through underground rhizomes and forms colonies of broad leaves and flowering stems. Its flowers commonly appear in spring, and later the plant can produce small berries. Its botanical name is Convallaria majalis, and despite its common name it is not a true lily from the genus Lilium. The arching flower stems often carry several small bells along one side, giving the plant its familiar cascading appearance.
