A Classic Graphite Pencil with an Eraser
The image depicts a standard graphite pencil featuring a sharp writing tip, a long wooden body, and a broad eraser attached to the top end. It represents a basic everyday instrument commonly found on a study desk or inside a pencil case.
How Pencils Are Made and Used
Despite their common name, lead pencils actually contain graphite mixed with clay inside a protective wooden shaft. The eraser attached to the top is usually made of synthetic rubber or vinyl, which lifts graphite particles off paper through friction. Standard graphite cores are graded by hardness, with softer grades leaving darker marks on a writing surface.
Colors of a Real Writing Pencil
- Wooden barrel: yellow, orange, green, or natural wood grain
- Metal ferrule: silver, gold, or brass
- Top eraser: pink, white, or light gray
- Graphite core tip: dark gray or black
