Sudoku 9×9 — easy

How to use this worksheet
- Start with the second row: eight of its nine numbers are printed, and the empty first square must be 2.
- The eighth column also has eight numbers; its gap is in the fourth row, and it must be 7.
- Keep looking for lines and boxes with one or two gaps; leave the top row, with just two numbers, for later.
- Compare the finished grid with the solution page.
What this worksheet teaches
A 9×9 sudoku has nine rows, nine columns and nine 3×3 boxes, and each must contain the numbers 1 to 9 exactly once. This grid gives 42 numbers, so 39 squares are empty, and there is exactly one solution. On this easy level, each empty square can be reached by checking what its row, column and box already hold. Children practice sustained, systematic checking on a much larger grid.
Rows, columns and 3×3 boxes
Each square belongs to three groups at once: its row, its column and its box. To find its number, collect everything those three groups already contain; whatever is missing from all of them is still possible. When only one number is left, write it in.
