Triangles

How to use this worksheet
- Each triangle starts at its bottom-left corner: up to the tip at the top line, down to the bottom line, then back along the base to the start.
- The next triangle begins where the previous one ended, so the corners touch.
- After the dashed part, keep drawing triangles of the same width to the end of the row.
What this worksheet teaches
Triangles train slanted strokes in both directions, up to the right and down to the right, plus a straight line back to the left. Every corner needs a stop and a change of direction, which builds the precision needed for letters such as A, V, M and W and for the number 4. The medium size moves the work to the wrist and fingers and prepares a 5-6 year old for notebook-sized writing.
Variation to try
Make a mountain chain: your child colors every second free triangle green and the others gray, then counts the mountains in each row.
Questions and answers
Questions from parents
What if the corners come out rounded?
Ask for a short pause at each corner; the hand must stop before it changes direction.
Should the triangles touch each other?
Yes. Each one starts at the corner where the last one finished, so the row forms a chain.
The free triangles grow taller than the lines. What helps?
Remind your child that the tip touches the top line and the base sits on the bottom line.
